Honorable mention
Some of the mattresses we tested were decent, albeit less impressive, and worth mentioning in case you’re considering them.
Helix Sunset Elite, $2,811: Our top pick, Helix also has an Elite collection of seven mattresses in a variety of softness. At 16 inches tall, this is the “tallest mattress on the internet” and ships in two separate boxes, each heavy enough to best meet FedEx requirements. Stiffness is determined by the density of the top layer of foam, which is incorporated into a larger support system. This allows you to adjust your mattress if you regret your order. The bottom section has two separate microcoil layers. I spent a month sleeping in the softest of the Elite line, a model called Sunset, and felt the benefits of a deep hug. Helix offers a 100-day trial period on all mattresses.
Wayfair Sleep 14-Inch Plush Cooling Gel Hybrid Mattress ($400): This plush mattress has a top layer of cooling gel for form-fitting comfort, and classic pocketed coils underneath for structure and support. It has a surrounding layer of memory foam of varying thickness. Coils for additional support (a mixture of coils and memory foam also helps with low motion transfer). A knit cover on the top and sides increase breathability, increasing the overall cooling effect. The mattress is also compatible with an adjustable bed base, has firm edge support, and is CertiPUR-US and Oeko-Tex certified (which guarantees the mattress is free of harmful toxins). , comes with a 10-year warranty. For those who prefer a more plush mattress, this bed is extremely comfortable.
Naturepedic EOS $3,499: Consider this another organic cousin to the Helix Elite above. This is also a large, sturdy mattress that comes disassembled into three boxes. If you’re looking for a customizable organic hybrid mattress, Naturepedic’s EOS is a solid (albeit expensive) choice. I ordered this on the firm side to see how comfortable it would be after months of using a medium mattress. It’s actually quite stiff and the springs only start to soften after 3 weeks of sleeping and resting and many jumps over 9 years. old girl You can replace layers for free after 100 nights, so you can find just the right firmness. Note that although the mattress is heavy thanks to the natural latex layer, it is sturdy enough that the company offers a 25-year limited warranty.
Mattress to avoid
There are some models to avoid. Many of these beds are very affordable, and if you’re not picky, you might be satisfied. And while the mattress may be decent, the price may not be.
The Magniflex Magnis Stretch 12 is made in Italy and is advertised as elongating the spine. It is endorsed by former Italian soccer player Giorgio Chiellini and current professional basketball player Stefano Tornuto, who plays for the Italian version of the Boston Celtics. Well, Maniflex definitely has some effect on the spine, but I found it very unwelcome. (Please note that I am not the same Martin Szysmar who played small professional soccer in Slovakia.) I stayed only two nights at the Magnis Stretch, and my uncle cried as I approached the next mattress tester. I limped along. The next morning, I felt as if I had been sleeping in a hammock made of chain-link fence, and my lower back felt weak and creaking. It’s probably because your hips are growing. If so, it turns out that I don’t like bending at the waist. Sleep Number Climate360 Smart Bed (5/10, WIRED review) has temperature control, which is great. Adjustable base provides comfort when watching TV, reading, or even sleeping. Unfortunately, the price tag is so large that sleep experts recommend avoiding the use of electronic devices before bed, but the Sleep IQ app goes against that advice. Did I mention it costs about the same as a used Buick and doesn’t weigh much more? AmazonBasics mattresses are made with cheaper foam that isn’t dense enough, which means you’ll sink in more. The Parachute Eco Comfort mattress does not last long at all. Even down to its luxurious price. The model we tested didn’t have enough proper padding over the coil.
