Shenzhen-based laser/smart projector manufacturer Formovie has announced the premium version of its Theater ultra-short throw 4K laser projector. With upgraded visuals and improved audio, the company’s new flagship promises immersive, movie-level viewing up to 150 inches.
Theater Premium models are built around enhanced flavors of Advanced Laser Phosphor Display technology. This technology was first invented in 2007 by Formovie’s parent company, Appotronics. The Chinese projector brand was co-founded in 2016 by Appotronics Corporation and Xiaomi Technology.
ALDP aims to create cinematic images “through the use of mixed polychromatic laser lines and laser-excited fluorescent materials.” The ALPD 4.0 RGB+ triple laser technology at the heart of the new Formovie flagship is reported to have a brightness output of 2,200 ISO lumens (up from 1,800 ISO lumens), 3,000:1 native contrast, and 107% coverage of the BT.2020 color gamut. I am. (up from 80%), delivering visuals that are “1.25 times crisper and purer than previous Theater models.”
In addition to HDR10+ decoding and enhanced speckle suppression, there’s also support for Dolby Vision. The 0.21:1 projection ratio puts it 18% closer to the display surface or screen than its UST sibling. This equates to a 150-inch diagonal visual with the rear edges 16.5 inches apart. Motorized focus and 4-point/8-point keystone correction make setup easy.
Instead of Android TV, the new flagship comes with Google TV built-in, which means you can officially access Netflix and other popular streaming apps through an intuitive interface. It comes with Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.0. There’s Google Assistant via Bluetooth remote control for voice search, and Chromecast for sharing content from your smartphone or tablet screen.
A gaming mode is also included to reduce input lag when cabled to the console via HDMI, reducing lag by 18ms compared to 40ms on the Theater model. There are three HDMI 2.1 ports (one with eARC), a pair of USB 2.0 connections, an Ethernet LAN, and analog and digital audio outputs.
While Formovie maintains its partnership with Bowers & Wilkins, “the entire sound system has been upgraded to second generation.” Improved sound quality starts with optimized Dolby Atmos and DTS-X support, a 990 cubic centimeter chamber delivers deeper bass, and high-end benefits from a new treble unit rocking titanium diaphragm. However, this dual speaker setup is rated at 15 watts per channel.
The Formovie Theater Premium model has a suggested retail price of $3,499, but pre-orders will begin on October 28th for $2,999.
