Tow wagons are great for moving things, but tackling heavy loads can be tiring. Startup Litefar has launched Orion, a remote-controlled electric cargo wagon that can carry up to 180 pounds of gear.
The Litefar Orion has one rubberized wheel on each corner, and the two rear wheels are powered by 500W hub motors. This gives the rolling wagon a top speed of 2 meters per second (4.4 mph), which users can adjust at four speed points starting from 0.6 m/s using a small wireless remote control.
LumiMote has a response time of 3 ms and a communication range of up to 12 m (39.4 ft). There is a small joystick on the top for control. It engages the electronic brakes at the push of a button, has a handy hold feature that holds the wagon in place until unlocked, and can also be reversed.
Designers have included AI smarts that allow the system to automatically adjust motor output based on data from a “high-precision inertial measurement unit.” So, for example, the onboard controller accelerates your momentum when you encounter a hill to maintain a constant pace. If you turn on Smart Mode, Orion will continue to move in a straight line (instead of veering to one side). Also, if someone tries to push the trolley too hard, the system will automatically compensate and slow it down towards the target. speed.
This setup has a 24,000 mAh battery that’s supposed to last for up to 10 km (6.2 miles) of wagon driving on a single charge, so if you need to charge your smartphone while you’re out and about. It can also be used as a USB power bank for your gadgets. The wild part.
The Orion is designed to carry heavy loads (up to 81.6 kg/180 lbs) in its 140-liter cloth cargo box and is also reportedly able to tow up to 188 kg (415 lbs). Side pockets, cargo nets and folding tables are also available as add-ons.
It rolls on IPX6-certified tubeless rubber wheels to shake off puddles and tides from beach treks. It has a built-in retractable lantern, perfect for adventures after dark. The remote also has a built-in SOS mode and doubles as a 300 lumen flashlight. Aluminum alloy frame folds 40% for transport or storage in the trunk. The wagon weighs 16.5 kg (36 lbs).
Like its predecessors like the Buffalo Cart and Outisan, the Orion electric wagon is on Kickstarter to help fund production, with funding currently starting at $389. The usual crowdfunding caveats apply, but if all the campaigns that have already been funded go as planned, shipping is expected to begin in December. There’s more in the video below.
