Following a successful Kickstarter, Duovox has developed a Pro version of its military-grade night vision monocular that promises to make hidden darkness “true full color.” A small smartphone camera has also joined the nocturnal adventure gadgets.
Duovox’s latest handheld night vision monocular features a 60% larger sensor than the previous Ultra. It combines a 1/1.79-inch CMOS image sensor with 3.75 x 3.75 µm pixels and an F/0.8 “super aperture” glass lens that “lets in more light, reduces noise, and improves image quality. Let me do it.”
Rather than using AI to render colors, Duovox uses its own “true full color technology,” but it claims 99.99% color accuracy, although it makes no effort to explain how it works. “Clear and sharp visuals with movement” are achieved. ”
The system captures footage at 1080p resolution and can reveal secrets in dark scenes down to 0.0001 lux. It features the same 850 nm IR illuminator as the previous Ultra, with optional 7-level illumination adjustment and an IR range of 800 meters (over 2,600 feet) for human and animal subjects. The shape of the building could be revealed up to 1 km (3,280 ft) away. Duovox reports that the Ultra Pro benefits from 10x optical focus and 10x digital zoom, allowing you to bring distant objects closer together.
Opposite the business side of the monocular is a 2-inch IPS display that can display output at 480×360 resolution, while live footage can be streamed via 802.11n Wi-Fi to a smartphone running the Duovox app.
This monocular is powered by a 6,000 mAh Li-Po battery that lasts up to 10 hours on a single charge, weighs 700 g (24.6 oz), has physical controls on the top, and is dust and water resistant. It has been reported that it has the following structure: Aluminum alloy and ABS provide durability in the field. A tripod mount is also included for stable shooting.
Launched with the monocular is a small Duovox Vision camera module. It shares most of its key specs with the Ultra Pro, but is designed to connect to your smartphone’s USB-C port and provide powerful night vision capabilities for your handset. Featuring a 90-degree wide-angle glass lens with an F/0.9 aperture, it is powered by the handset’s battery, provides night vision range of up to 100 m (328 ft), and weighs only 60 g (2 oz).
As before, Duovox is crowdfunding the production of its Ultra Pro and Vision devices, but this time it has chosen to head to Indiegogo. Ultra Pro benefits now start at $99 USD and include a protective case and lens cap, a 64 GB media card (supports up to 512 GB), and more. The Vision camera is also on sale now for $99.
The usual crowdfunding caveats apply, but if all the campaigns that have already been funded go as planned, shipping of both devices is expected to begin in December. There’s more in the video below.
