It was just over a year ago that I first encountered a multitool with a small adjustable wrench. The Orioners Z3 is a modern tool that boasts one of those, along with eight other useful features, including a folding cutting blade.
If the name Orioners sounds familiar, it’s because the Hong Kong outdoor gear company previously brought us the Z1 multitool, which comes with a blade, saw, bit driver socket, and other great features. I don’t know if there was a Z2, but the Z3 is now on Kickstarter.
The device is made from sandblasted, oil-sealed, CNC-machined stainless steel and is a more economical alternative to titanium, which is used in the majority of multi-tools on crowdfunding platforms these days. It is a product.
First and foremost, the Z3 is equipped with an adjustable wrench that actually opens up to 3 cm (1.2 inches) wide. Millimeter markings along the back of the wrench allow it to be used as a measuring caliper as well.
The lower jaw of the wrench has a bottle opener, the upper jaw has a Phillips screwdriver bit on the back, and a tungsten steel glass-breaking stud on the top. Directly below the bottle opener is a collapsible 420 stainless steel cutting blade that locks into place when unfolded.
The non-wrench side of the Z3 is in the form of a prybar with a built-in nail puller. A clip on the back of the multitool allows you to hang it on your belt, pocket, or backpack strap. The overall size of the rig is said to be 94 mm long, 29 mm wide, and 8 mm thick (3.7 x 1.1 x 0.3 inches), and weighs 50.4 grams (1.8 ounces).
Once Orioners Z3 reaches production, you can get one for a $35 pledge. Estimated retail price is $65. You can see it in use in the video below.
