If you’re looking for your first AirPods, you might have some questions, like how to properly clean them or adjust certain settings. Here are some answers to some of the most common questions about AirPods.
Can I use Airpods with Android?
Yes, AirPods use standard Bluetooth protocols, so they can be used with non-Apple devices, but you’ll lose features like Siri integration, ear detection (so audio doesn’t automatically pause when you remove your AirPods), and the ability to customize shortcuts for the double-tap function. Beats headphones generally have broader Android support, though.
Can I buy just one AirPod?
Yes. If you lose an AirPod, you can purchase a replacement right or left AirPod through Apple. AppleCare+ doesn’t cover lost or stolen AirPods, so it will cost you. You can use Apple’s “Estimate” tool to calculate the estimated cost. The same applies if you lose your charging case. The replacement will be a newer version.
Why does only one AirPod work?
If you can’t hear audio through your AirPods, make sure your case is fully charged. Then, put both AirPods in the case to charge for 30 seconds. Then open the charging case and use your iPhone or iPad to make sure each AirPod is charging (you’ll see a lightning bolt icon next to both). Put both AirPods in your ears and test for audio. If that doesn’t fix the problem, you might need to reset your AirPods.
Why isn’t my AirPods case charging?
First, check your connections. If you have AirPods or AirPods Pro, make sure the cable is securely plugged into your case and power adapter. Charge your AirPods for at least 15 minutes (use the cable provided by Apple). If you have AirPods Max, charge them for at least 5 minutes. Next, open your AirPods or AirPods Pro case, or your AirPods Max Smart Case, and place it near your iPhone or iPad. Then, when you check your battery status, you’ll see a charging icon. If that doesn’t resolve your issue, contact Apple Support.
If you lose your AirPod, can you find it?
If you have AirPods (3rd generation), AirPods Pro (all versions), or AirPods Max, you can use the Find My app to track your AirPods. (However, you can’t track empty AirPods cases unless you have the second-generation AirPods Pro.) Make sure the feature is turned on by going to Settings > Bluetooth, tapping the “I” icon, scrolling down, and turning on Find My Network. If it’s already on, go to the Find My app and tap your AirPods in the Devices tab. From there, you can see the exact location of your left and right earbuds. If you’re not nearby, tap Get Directions and your location will automatically appear on a map. If you’re nearby, you can also tap Tap Sound to hear a beep. If you have AirPods Pro (2nd generation) with an iPhone 11 or later, you can also use Precision Finder.
When your AirPods say “Not Location Found” or “Offline,” it means they’re out of range or need to be charged. That’s why they only show their last known location. At that point, you might be able to get directions, but you won’t be able to use Find Nearby or play sounds. Your Apple device will notify you when your AirPods are back online.
Can I clean my AirPods?
Yes, you can wipe your AirPods, AirPods Pro, or AirPods Max with a soft, dry, lint-free cloth. However, there are additional steps you may want to take depending on the type of AirPods you have. Apple provides instructions for properly cleaning each version here.
Why won’t my AirPods connect to my device?
If your AirPods won’t connect, first make sure your iPhone, iPad, and Mac are updated to the latest operating system. Next, make sure both AirPods are charging and Bluetooth is turned on (Settings > Bluetooth), and double-check that your AirPods appear in the list of devices and are selected in Settings. If they’re not listed, press and hold the button on the back of the charging case until the status light flashes white, then follow the on-screen instructions.
How do I get rid of crackling or static noise on my AirPods Pro?
If you’re hearing crackling or static from your AirPods Pro, make sure you’re running the latest software. Also, make sure your connected devices are nearby and that there’s no wireless interference or obstructions between them and your iPhone, iPad, or Mac (such as walls or floors, frequent Wi-Fi activity, or wireless speakers). If you’re not experiencing any of these issues, try listening to audio from another app to see if the app is causing the problem. If not, you can look into our AirPods Pro service program for sound issues.
Why isn’t Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) working?
Double-check that your Apple device software is up to date. Once you have both AirPods Pro in your ears, make sure ANC is turned on (you can go to Settings > AirPods Pro > Noise Control on your iPhone). Also, check if Adaptive Audio is turned on. Earwax and debris can build up over time, so cleaning the microphone and speaker can help. If that doesn’t fix the problem, you can have your sound issue checked out through Apple’s AirPods Pro service program.
Can I turn off Siri notifications?
Yes, if you don’t want Siri to annoyingly read out text messages and other notifications while you’re listening to music or podcasts, you can turn it off. Read on for instructions.
