I opened my email today to see Brooke Barker’s newsletter about how teenagers complimented her outfit this weekend. The title was “Does this drip easily?” followed by “Is that okay?” which made me laugh out loud.
Has a teenager ever complimented your outfit (or shoes, or hair, or lipstick) in recent memory? I mean, who cares? But at the same time, it’s a very special thrill.
Below is part of Brooke’s newsletter.
Niisis.
11-year-old Anton, born with killer style (remember his outfit of the week?), told me both of these outfits were “bath.” This is a good thing, but don’t confuse it with bad “buns”.
I remember one late summer afternoon when I was a preteen. I put on my new hypercolor shirt and rode my bike around the suburbs. I almost felt guilty for passing people because I was worried that they would look at me and feel bad about me. After all, they weren’t me, and I looked good.
I love the confidence of preteens and teenagers. It was such a fun time in my life and I love it so much. And I hope they feel that confidence for as long as possible. I really hope you enjoy it and enjoy it. On the show “Nobody Wants This,” Kristen Bell told her boyfriend, “You called me your friend in front of a bunch of teenagers, and I care about their opinions the most.” I laughed when I said that.
One last thing: Not to brag, but my friend’s daughter actually asked to try on my sunglasses. Needless to say, I never take them off.
what about you? Do you have teenagers around you right now? What do they think is cool or uncool?
PS There’s a lot more about teenagers, including 21 subjective rules for raising teenage girls and teenage boys.
