I’m a good ad sucker. I’m just a dream guy when a telemarketer throws some cheesy photos into a commercial. Is it the right case? This dried chin strap for double chin. I’m not saying I have a very droopy jaw, but I don’t think my jaw line is something I write at home.
So, when I saw Kathleen Jennings’ beauty rave about this mysterious mask on Instagram, I quickly added it to my cart. But does it really work? Can wearing a mask for an hour remove the really troublesome double chin? I decided to test it myself. To get a comprehensive breakdown of the product, I asked two experts to share the science behind stealing the chin strap. Read on and look at the cheesy before and after photos of yourself to find out if this mask is really a miracle or a myth.

Experts:
What reduces the chin strap and what is it supposed to do?
The dry chin strap I tested is called the V-line lifting hydrogel collagen mask by Stylia and can be found on Amazon. (You may have heard of Tiktok’s popular Chinology Mask Review.) It aims to “tighten and define the jawline” and “eliminate double chins and droopy skin.” Isn’t it pretty good?
Furthermore, the product itself is innocent. All you do is peel it off from the protective lining, lightly stretch the mask a few times and hook it onto your ears. According to the instructions, you are told to wear a mask for 30 minutes, but there is a note saying you should wear it for an hour for the first week. The star components are hyaluronic acid, hydrolyzed collagen, and aloe vera extract, all smooth and have tightness properties.
Which ingredients and sides of this mask will be effective?
Dr. Desai points out that these masks tend to inject collagen, vitamin C, caffeine and/or niacinamide. These ingredients can moisturize the skin and give it a tighter feel, but it tends to last only about a day. Over time, consistent daily use can gradually improve your skin quality. However, don’t expect to see the same tightness effects from surgery or laser treatments in the office.
According to Tavernise, Chin straps also tackle the simple premise of temporarily ignoring gravity. “In our daily lives, there are many environmental factors that affect our skin and contribute to aging. The chin strap holds the skin in place, while it is protected and supported,” says Tavernise. However, she also commented that unless you’ve worn the strap 24 hours a day (still stretching), it’s not going to provide lasting results.
How can you enjoy all the benefits of this dripping jaw strap?
Tavernise advises that when paired with facial exercises or Gua Sha, Chin straps are best used. “There are known benefits shown in solving facial muscles, and jaw straps can amplify the effect,” says Tavernise. She also points out that consistency is always important, so it’s important to make sure you commit to doing these facial exercises every day. It’s a great budget-friendly way to tone and sculpt the muscles of your face and provide a lift, even without a mask. Dr. Desai emphasizes that getting eager to sunscreen can result in even better results by putting your skincare routine around your neck.
So, can you really shape the jawline and fix the hanging jaw with the mask?
Tavernise says, “The chin strap is like a facial bra.” She shares that there is no clinical research to show that it provides real results, but offers temporary lifts. Even when worn over time, the chin strap does not change the structure or shape of your face. Dr. Desai may notice that after using a chin mask, the skin feels smoother and tighter, but unfortunately these results are temporary.
A general consensus between dermatologists and estheticians? Most often, this dried chin strap is a myth. The silver lining is that there is some science behind the slightest advantages, and I definitely saw some slightest results.
My experience of removing the chin strap
I’m a perfectionist and an over-achiever, so I wore this mask for two weeks every day, despite being longer than the packaging instructions. We tied up after dinner movies, morning coffee, during lunch break, and even planes (yes, it had a very confused look). I also hope to highlight the results by using two fingers to massage the jawline while wearing the mask.
The biggest lesson I’ve learned from all of this is that it’s harder than you think to promise to wear something every day! It’s not a pain at all, but I didn’t think it was very comfortable. After a while, it starts to pull on your ears, giving you the same feeling as wearing your headband for a long time. I also wanted the mask to be reusable. Because I felt it was a waste to open a new package every day and throw it away an hour later. But cleanup doesn’t matter. This made it easy to throw the mask on anytime, anywhere.
The following series was filmed after an hour of wearing the mask. If you look closely, you can see that my chin and chin are slightly defined after using the chin and chin straps. However, I also notice that everything in the previous photo looks quite similar, so I was disappointed that there were no permanent consequences.

Overall, there was no significant difference between the 14th and 14th day. It was not until I took off my mask that I noticed the difference, and as both Dr. Desai and Tavelvercises said, the outcome was temporary. And because of my schedule, I couldn’t even witness a temporary snatched Joline, as it was the easiest thing to do at night.
So the jaw straps are shaking and unfortunately there is no shortcut to throw away the drooping chin. If you really want to see long-term improvements, Tavernise recommends dedicating a few minutes a day to less expensive and more committed facial massages and Gua Sha. However, if you are experiencing any type of swelling, or are holding an event later in the day, these masks still offer temporary fixes.
