If you’re tired of the titanium multitools that have been popping up on Kickstarter lately, the AX02 EDC carabiner tool might be a breath of fresh air. With a brass body, the device allows users to cut, saw, turn screws, open bottles, and determine which direction to go.
Manufactured by Hong Kong gear company Ti-MAN, the AX02 is made from a brass alloy consisting almost entirely of copper and zinc. Two exceptions are the folding steel knife blade at one end of the device and the hard-mounted serrated steel blade. The lengths of these blades are 30 mm and 27 mm (1.16 inches and 1 inch) respectively.
The other end of the AX02 has a bottle opener.
The side of the device without the carabiner gate has five holes, three of which are circular and two are hexagonal. The central (round) hole allows you to attach the included removable compass, while the hexagonal holes on either side act as 8.2 mm and 6.6 mm (0.32 inch and 0.26 inch) bit driver sockets.
Two round holes on the outside can accommodate two of the four included magnetic rings, allowing you to stick the AX02 to ferromagnetic surfaces. Although some pictures of the Ti-MAN show its configuration, it is clearly not a good idea to attach both the magnet and compass at the same time.
The company suggests that if the hole is left empty, you can use it to thread paracord through the device. And yes, the AX02 is a carabiner after all, so you can use it for tasks like hanging gear and stringing things together…but definitely not for rock climbing.
Assuming the AX02 EDC carabiner goes into production, you can get one for a $39 pledge. You can see it in use in the video below.
