If you use a personal Adobe account, you can easily opt out of content analysis. Open Adobe’s privacy page, scroll down to the “Content analysis to improve our products” section, and click the toggle off. If you have a business or school account, you will be automatically opted out.
Amazon: AWS
Amazon Web Services’ AI services, such as Amazon Rekognition and Amazon CodeWhisperer, may use customer data to improve the company’s tools, but you can opt out of AI training. This used to be one of the most complex processes on the list, but has been streamlined in recent months. This support page from Amazon outlines the complete process for opting out your organization.
figma
Figma, a popular design software, may use data to train its models. If your account is licensed through an Organizational or Enterprise plan, you’ll be automatically opted out. Starter and Professional accounts, on the other hand, are opted in by default. This setting can be changed at the team level by opening the settings under the (AI) tab and turning off content training.
Google Gemini
If you’re a user of Gemini, Google’s chatbot, your conversations may be selected for human review to improve the AI model. However, it’s easy to opt out. Open Gemini in your browser, click on (Activity) and select the (Turn Off) drop-down menu. Here you can turn off your Gemini app activity or opt out and delete your conversation data. This means that in most cases future chats will not be displayed for human review, but data that has already been selected will not be erased by this process. According to Google’s Gemini Privacy Hub, these chats can last for three years.
grammatically
We have grammatically updated our policy to allow personal accounts to opt out of AI training. To do this, go to (Account), (Settings), and turn off the (Product Improvement and Training) toggle. Is your account using an Enterprise or Educational license? You will then be automatically opted out.
Grok AI(X)
Kate O’Flaherty wrote a great article for WIRED about Grok AI and protecting privacy in X, the platform the chatbot runs on. This is another situation where millions of users of a website woke up one day and were automatically opted into AI training with minimal notice. If you still have an X account, you can opt out of having your data used for Grok training by going to the (Settings & Privacy) section, then (Privacy & Safety). Open the Grok tab and deselect the data sharing option.
hubspot
HubSpot, a popular marketing and sales software platform, automatically uses data from its customers to improve its machine learning models. Unfortunately, there is no button to turn off the use of data for AI training. You must send an email to privacy@hubspot.com with a message requesting to opt out of data associated with your account.
Users of a career networking website were surprised to learn in September that their data may be being used to train AI models. “At the end of the day, people want an edge in their careers, and our gen-AI services can help provide that support,” said LinkedIn spokesperson Eleanor Crum.
To opt out of new LinkedIn posts used for AI training, go to your profile and open Settings. Tap (Data Privacy) and uncheck the slider labeled (Use data to train content creation AI models).
OpenAI: ChatGPT and Dall-E
While using chatbots, people reveal all kinds of personal information. OpenAI gives you several options for what happens to what you say to ChatGPT, including preventing future AI models from being trained on your content. “Through ChatGPT, we offer many easily accessible ways to manage your data, including self-service tools to access, export, and delete personal information. “We include an easy-to-access option to opt out of having your content used for any purpose,” said Taya Christianson, a spokesperson for OpenAI. (Options vary slightly depending on account type, and data from enterprise customers is not used to train the model.)
