The other night, towards the end of the cookie exchange, 14-year-old Toby turned to me with a look of horror on his face…
Most of the guests had left, but six of our friends, Toby, and I were sitting on the giant sofa talking. I thought everything was cozy and cheerful until Toby pointed out something.
“Mom,” he lamented, rolling his eyes. “This is… turning into a combo party.”
Combo party? People chatting but not much else? What’s worse? Something needed to happen, and fast.
“Let’s play a game,” Toby suggested, quickly deciding on a category. Have you played it? The rules couldn’t be simpler. Choose a category, such as cars, fruits, vegetables, or sitcoms, and then stand in a circle and name something in that category. If you repeat one or can’t think of one, you’re out. The last person remaining is the winner. that’s it!
We played 3 rounds.
Breakfast cereals (don’t forget European brands too)
Airlines (“Qantas!” as my Australian friend said. “Land of the Sunshine” crushed Tobey).
American states (this one was especially fun)
This game is always surprisingly interesting for both children and adults, so if you want to mix things up or suddenly have too much, you can play it on holidays. *screech*
5 more fun games that don’t require pieces:
* Number game
*Grandma’s suitcase
* would you rather
*Celebrities
* Loaded with questions
What are your thoughts? Have you played any of these? Which games would you add to your list?
PS It’s actually a fun board game. Have you played Bitey?
