Is there an intermediate ground between a $200,000+ Deluxe Camping Carvan and a painstaking, time-consuming DIY build? The camper nameplate, established outside of Van, looks to its ground, offering buyers a Goldilocks solution that meets the ease of a pre-built camper, with some of the flexibility and affordability of a DIY build. With a baseline van, outside decades of experience handles more heavily converted tasks and leaves the rest to the home builder. Thanks to the included beds, the baseline is ready to move and camp from the moment it rolls out of the lot.
Outside Vans built the most impressive custom sprinter camper van in the United States, including one intended to shuttle bikes during the day, creating the name that will serve as a remote arcade throughout the night.
Since its acquisition by Fox Factory in 2021, the exterior has been increasingly moving to dealer van models with fixed floor plans that exudes a custom level of comfort and style. The baseline is a family entry-level model, giving DIY buyers a height base for their builds. The exterior handles unattractive, professional tasks such as cutting vents from sheet metal and strengthening structural steel, leaving buyers with the fun part of designing and developing floor plans full of furniture, appliances and accessories.

Baseline builds start with the buyer’s choice of Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 144 or 170 wheelbase for over 2019. Depending on the model year, the van will be equipped as a standard with Mercedes’ new Sprinter AWD system or the previous 4×4.
From there, the external handles mandatory conversions and incorporates headaches that are likely to prove difficult for first time DIY builders. Added to Sprinter battery and T-Vent Camper Wired Electric Roof Vent Fans to Windows. Then place the floor down, install a fully insulated package with sound damping, add dimmable ceiling lighting, and finish the interior with wall and ceiling panels. It also adds wire pass-through to facilitate electrical work, adding fuse/switch boxes, wheel well boxes, CO2 detectors and fire extinguishers.

Then, adding a three-panel bed and a wall mounting system will result in a light camper van just outside the store. The bed consists of aluminum and pyrawood frames cushioned with closed cell foam and finished with interwoven fabric. The installation, on the other hand, consists of aluminum rails attached to the structural foundation for quick installation and removal of the bed panel. With this bed, the baseline will seamlessly sleep both drivers and passengers comfortably before completing the interior finishing tasks with components such as kitchen hardware, water supply and rear seats.
Beyond that, it’s back to the (home) lab with pens and pads. Buyers can now layout their floor plans as they wish. Better yet, they can venture a little with just a large number of cabins filled with beds and camping equipment, sports equipment and luggage, and grasp accurate needs and desires through experience. Unlike buying a full turnkey camper van, they are free to put money in at once, not everything at once, over time.

We launched the baseline last year, and now we can order at a starting price of USD 89,000 for the Sprinter 144 or $96,000 for the Sprinter 170. These prices may appear sudden compared to regular passenger cars and to a complete camper.
