Innovative technology company Looktech has partnered with Wenzhou Moveup Optical Co to develop perhaps the most beautiful smart glasses ever seen. But these shades, featuring GPT-4o, Gemini, and Claude, are more than just style.
Unveiled at CES 2025 in January, Looktech AI Glasses are essentially wearable audio/visual AI assistants that can identify objects, translate text, set reminders, answer questions, guide you with GPS, and organize meetings. You can do a summary and even evaluate the contents of your refrigerator. For meal suggestions, if necessary, calculate the calories that end up on your plate.
Heck, they can even remember faces for you and tell you your name so you’re never missing out.
At this point, resisting AI’s new daily routine seems a bit futile, but at least now wearable technology is catching up to its promise and is light years away from the abominable days of early Google Glass. It’s far away.
Now it’s easier to see how smart glasses can be extremely useful and less creepy. These are intended to reduce the amount of time you spend looking at your phone’s screen, and can even be used to secretly take photos and videos, but their usefulness depends on the extensive language model they contain. there is.
Here, voice-controlled AI helper notes become more personalized as you interact with them, feeding back information based on your preferences. Like other assistants like Alexa and Siri, Notes is triggered by a similar command (“Hey Notes”), but you can also turn it on by tapping the AI button located inside the frame.
The 13MP anti-shake camera can take high-resolution photos, record stable 2K video, and even run it with an AI editor if you want to share your captures on the go. And, counteracting some of that creep factor, when the camera fires up, an indicator light appears on the surface of the frame, letting others, at least those who know enough about smart glasses, that you’re in capture mode. I’ll let you know.
Of course, these glasses have the standard “smart” features like playing music and making and receiving calls, but they also have more cool features. The AI assistant records meetings and calls as needed and automatically delivers transcripts and summaries that can be accessed on your smartphone.
Having recently spent hours every day in Taipei holding my phone up to billboards and wall menus, I also saw the value of Looktech’s real-time translation capabilities. Google Lens is good, but not subtle. And, as I learned the hard way, it’s pretty difficult to use your phone in the rain with a wet screen.
Looktech uses Transport Layer Security (TLS) end-to-end encryption and additional advanced encryption standards to protect your personal data, and all interactions with ChatGPT are anonymous. In addition to these measures, the glasses have a voiceprint activation feature, which allows only the owner to operate the built-in technology.
Battery life is “up to 14 hours” (which will likely vary depending on usage), so you can expect a full day’s worth of use. That’s pretty impressive considering Meta’s smart glasses, developed in partnership with Ray-Ban, only last “up to four hours.” Note that you need both a smartphone and at least iOS 15 or Android 10. However, these have been around since 2021 and 2019, respectively.
Looktech also packs Bluetooth 5.4, Wi-Fi 6, and 32 GB of flash storage into a durable and flexible TR90 frame that weighs 37 g (1.3 oz). The speakers, which are intended to keep music and audio only in your ears, are housed within the arms of the frame, as are the noise-cancelling microphones.
Looktech’s basic app is free and comes with mini-apps that support various features such as transcription and media editing.
Like the technology inside, these glasses have a lot of room for customization. Not only are the frames available in several colors and sizes, but the lenses also come in transitional, polarized, and prescription options. Lens selection will be provided through a survey at the end of Looktech’s Kickstarter campaign. You can also add your prescription number if you wish. Fortunately, there are no additional charges for any of the lenses.
And it’s surprisingly affordable. During the crowdfunding campaign (50 days remaining at time of publication), Looktech AI Glasses are priced starting at $209 USD (40% off the MSRP of $349) and include a charging cable, cleaning cloth, manual, and carrying case. Comes with it. For $240, you can upgrade to a set that also includes a portable charging case (42% off MSRP). Frames can also be engraved for an additional $10.
With shipping worldwide and funding goals easily exceeded, buyers can expect shipping starting in April 2025.
