Following the recent launch of the impressive and all-new X-Dome series, Durston has returned to the workshop to tweak and brighten up some of the already-zero existing tent models. The 2025 X-Mid 2 is especially one tent, benefiting from its existence, and for the first time it will fall below 2 lb (0.9 kg) without giving up on the space inside or the perfect weather integrity of the overall environment. It’s the same X-Mid 2 that backpackers and other backcountry travelers have relied on, and only a few ounces.
First released in 2019, the X-Mid 2 is a two-person version of Durston’s original X-Mid 1. Durston expanded from a fully-framed, freestanding tent spun from exotic materials with even lighter shelters, while the X-Mid 2 remained a robust ultra-lightweight option offering intriguing pound value proportions.

The X-Mid 2 got better with age as Durstone was able to gradually reduce weight from 2.4 pounds (1.1 kg) on the original 2019 model to 2.2 lb (1 kg) by 2024. Currently, dropping 5 ounces (140 g) to break the 2 lb barrier is the biggest loss of the year.
With a low weight of 1.9 lb (880 g), the 2025 x-mid 2 is lighter than ever before without losing space or functionality. Durstone relies on a combination of ultra-lightweight advanced 15D silester fabric, narrow seams and narrow seam tape to shave the weight without sacrificing overall space or performance.
The company says the revised tent maintains the same strength and storm pride as its predecessor, so it won’t disappoint backpackers when it matters most. All walls are surrounded at an angle of 50-55 degrees for optimal shedding of both snow and wind, and Silpoli fabric is said to maintain more tension than the common Silnon commons, which are common in other tent models.

The X-Mid 2 comes with a bathtub-style mesh interior tent and a fully double-walled design with an outer rain f extending low to the ground. The setup allows the camper to open the mesh for a warm, suffocating night, in line with situations that have been completely down in bad weather.
The X-Mid 2 relies on two trekking poles as a frame, beyond which it pitches quickly with just four stakes at the corner. The trekking poles are set on the sides of the left and right entrances and provide clear intrusion/exits and better space management for the two vestibules. The magnetic fly door switching allows you to easily open and close the fly door with one hand.
Inside, the X-MID offers a parallelogram floor plan measured at a width of 52 x 92 (132 x 234 cm) with a total sleeping area of 33.2 square feet (3.1 square meters). The interior peak height is registered at 45 inches (114 cm), and Durstone’s offset pole configuration maintains many of the roofs that raise roofs above or near the peak height than other tent designs, especially those that are bred at the height of the peak than the monopolar pyramids. The triangular end section of the floor plan between the edge of the floor and the resident’s head and feet is for storing gear, and four interior pockets provide space for small belongings.

The weight of 1.9 pounds is associated with a full tent body and rainfly. The eight available stakes add 23 g (0.8 oz) and the baskets of wood add an additional 13 g (0.5 oz) and press the total weight on all components slightly above 2.2 lb (1 kg) that does not include multipurpose hiking poles.
The new updated 2025 X-Mid 2 is available for order, starting at 284 USD and starts without $274. The X-Mid 2 hits us as a very light, advanced tent for under $300. Durstone also offers the more high-tech X-MID Pro 2.
