Denim is a year-round staple, but it’s a must-have for your fall capsule wardrobe. As we transition into cooler seasons, jeans are often the foundation of my styling. This season, designers are reimagining this wardrobe staple in fresh and exciting ways, striking the perfect balance between timeless appeal and modern flair. We’ve witnessed the rise and fall of skinny jeans, the unexpected return of low-rise styles, and even a brief flirtation with capris, but what will denim trends be like for fall 2024?

Popular denim styles for fall 2024
While classic straight-leg jeans are always a staple, fall is the perfect season to have a little fun with a variety of denim. When asked which styles will rule the denim trend for Fall 2024, Na names three fashion-forward styles that you’ll see everywhere this season.
Barrel/balloon leg denim. This structured silhouette is set to be popular in Fall 2023 and shows no signs of slowing down. The exaggerated gown look may seem a little crazy at first, but I find this shape universally appealing and automatically makes an outfit more interesting. Ultra-wide leg denim. We all know the rumors that skinny jeans are going out of fashion, but the exact opposite will be in fashion for Fall 2024. Na explains that comfort is always key when buying denim, and this fall jeans will become more and more roomy and wide. Wide, low-rise, comfortable jeans are the perfect match for more fitted tops, making them perfect for a classy yet relaxed night out. Intentionally folded denim. Perhaps my favorite of the Fall 2024 denim trends are jeans with large folded hems, which are taking the runways and my Instagram feed by storm. With small, simple details, this design is perfect for anyone looking to subtly add a touch of trend to their fall wardrobe.
Denim color palettes and washes that will be popular in fall 2024
For Na, the answer is simple: dark denim and rinsed classics are fall’s go-to washes. While light- and mid-wash jeans can be paired with browns, blacks, and burgundies in the fall, darker, slightly faded color palettes are popular this season. Red is still everywhere, and Na notes that it will remain a ready-to-wear denim trend into fall 2024.
Styling tips for the fall 2024 denim trend
I’m really looking forward to styling denim for fall and Na’s tips will guide me throughout the season.
do:
Wear denim on denim. There’s a reason the Canadian tuxedo is a classic. Feel free to mix and match denim washes to add depth to your outfit. Denim is yours. Don’t be afraid to take a pair of scissors and cut the inseam to fit your height (it’s easier than you think).
What not to do:
Pair slim bottoms with slim tops for fun outfits. Stick to the size you normally wear and try on a few sizes to see which one fits you best. Try on some of the fun new shapes – you might even be surprised.
For those who love the slim fit of denim but don’t want to go out of style, “slim straight is the new skinny.” Pair ankle-length cropped jeans with an oversized shirt, jacket or sweater for an easy, fall look that’s on trend and will make you feel unique.
Na herself plans to style rinsed denim tops and bottoms together or separately this fall. Her go-to is to complement loose-fitting denim with a fitted top and finish the look with socks and loafers.
Denim trends for fall 2024: 15 recommended denim styles
Pistol Rider High Rise Cuffs
If you’re looking for a pair of pants that incorporates all the denim trends for Fall 2024, look no further than these pants. With a dark wash, wide leg and purposeful cuffs, they’re the perfect understated jean.
Lola’s Gigi Barrel Forever Jeans
Barrel leg denim is a signature fall silhouette and this dark wash denim from Rolla’s has just the right shape – not too bulky, yet super flattering, and I can’t wait to wear this style all season long.
Annie Bing Gavin Jean
I’m pretty sure the girls in Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants wore the Anine Bing Gavin Jean. They’re a nice in-between: mid wash, mid rise, roomy but not too roomy, cropped but not too cropped. If you’re looking for a pair of jeans that will never go out of style, I’d rate these a 10/10.
Abercrombie High Rise 90s Relaxed Jeans
The most affordable and best fitting jeans I own, these Abercrombie jeans are perfect for fall. They’re slim enough to wear with a chunky knit and wide enough to wear with boots. I’ve recommended them to most of my friends, so I’ll let you in on a secret.
Free People x We the Free Good Luck Mid Rise Jeans
Another great, affordable option in the barrel leg trend, these jeans from Free People have been a staple in my closet since last fall, and I love that the dark wash can be dressed up with heels in the evening or kept casual with loafers during the day.
Jean Long, crew member of Lola
If you’re looking for a luxurious, well-tailored pair of wide-leg jeans, check out the Sailor Jean from Rolla’s. I plan on wearing these literally every day this fall with a tucked-in white t-shirt and boots. This style runs small, so be sure to order a size up.
Madewell Darted Barrel Leg Jeans
It was love at first sight with these jeans. Everything about them, from the shape to the color to the styling, immediately drew me in. They have a similar look to the Nili Lotan Shon Pant but are a third of the price, so it’s worth signing up for restock notifications if your size is sold out.
Pistola Lana High Rise Ultra Wide
Off-white is one of my favorite hues to style for fall, and these wide-leg jeans from Pistola are perfect to pair with cream knits, chocolate brown suede, and true blue denim tops this season.
SLVRLAKE Taylor Wide Pleated Jeans
SLVRLAKE’s Taylor Wide Pleated Jeans are a fresh take on classic denim, combining vintage-inspired pleats with a modern wide-leg silhouette. Though they’re certainly pricey, SLVRLAKE jeans are one of my favorite investments and will likely be a fall staple for years to come.
Levi’s 501 Straight
Sometimes if it ain’t broken, don’t fix it. Levi’s has been making great, timeless denim for hundreds of years. These jeans will live in your closet for hundreds of years to come. Finding a pair of well-worn vintage 501s is a great way to elevate your style.
AGOLDE Low Slung Buggy
We all know that comfort is key when it comes to denim, and these baggy jeans from AGOLDE are not even close to sweatpants. They’re truly an everyday pair of jeans, perfect for cozy fall days and evenings. I love pairing them with feminine ballet flats to contrast the baggy style. Agolde jeans run large, so if you’re in-between sizes, I recommend sizing down the size.
Reformation Carry Low Rise Slouch Wide Leg Jeans
With a fitted overall look and wide leg, these slim jeans nail the denim trend for Fall 2024. This stunning charcoal shade will be gorgeously styled with a black knit and black boots for fall.
Frame the Bubble Jean
These jeans have had a special place in my heart ever since I saw them styled in an ad on Instagram. The wash is so unique, the inky blue hue, and the bubble shape is flattering, interesting, and fun. The model had the pants rolled up, checking out both the barrel and cuff trends for Fall 2024.
Madewell The Rail Straight Jeans
While trends come and go, a classic straight-leg, dark to mid-wash jean is a fall must-have. These jeans will go with every outfit in your wardrobe, last for years, and are easy on the wallet. What more could you want in a pair of pants?
Park low rise baggy jeans
Featuring both seasonal styles and colors, Parke’s latest release is the best place to shop denim trends for Fall 2024. There’s also a matching jacket available, and I’m personally eyeing both the red and camel styles… I might just have to buy both.
