Don’t be fooled by the bright, friendly stripes. The Iveco Daily Switch 4×4 was the meanest looking camper at this year’s biggest RV show. Much more. This towering RV is one of the most versatile vehicles at the show, featuring Iveco’s highly configurable van platform, the warehouse equivalent of an airline tie-down truck, and the ability to reach remote forestry and mining sites. It was a combination of modular equipment sets that seamlessly “switched” between transporting supplies and hunting. The highest and most remote campsite in the world.
I was taking about five photos of Volkswagen’s new Multivan California, one of the most anticipated highlights of this year’s Düsseldorf Caravan Salon, when a huge pop-top Iveco Daily Switch 4×4 smacked my knuckles. It wrapped itself around our eyes and wouldn’t let go. , pull us across the aisle to take a closer look.
The Daily is an eye-catching van to begin with, with a large rounded nose that gives it a unique look compared to full-size vans. Add oversized off-road tires, a pop-up roof, forest graphics, and park your front wheels on logs to take your comfortable van even higher and you’ve got a huge van life like no other. enter. It’s pretty eye-opening.
Iveco has partnered with a leading van up fitter to transform the Daily van into the Daily Switch. This is a versatile modular van that can serve as your daily work vehicle, whether it’s tough, dirty outdoor work, climate-controlled e-commuting, or holiday camping. run away.
The initiative begins with Iveco’s already versatile Daily van. This van is available in a number of size and equipment options, including 4×2 and 4×4 powertrain options. Iveco’s main partner in crime at Daily Switch is Hünerkopf, an RV components specialist with an interesting history of slideouts and custom work.
Hünerkopf isn’t focusing on flashy bodywork here, instead building the Daly’s stock cabin into a versatile do-it-all van. It all starts with an important foundation: airline tracks mounted on the floor, walls, and ceiling. From there, Hünerkopf built a camper with wall and floor insulation, two sliding RV side windows, a roof hatch, a rotating cab seat, a diesel heater, and a “micro” electrical package with a 130 Ah AGM battery. We have specified the van. Charger, 650W inverter, 12/230V/USB outlet, interior lighting. Buyers who need more power can upgrade to a “larger” electrical package with a 200 Ah lithium battery and 1,600 W inverter.
For even more versatility, Hünerkopf and Iveco have added one of the most useful and clever van partitions we’ve ever seen, at least this month. A large removable partition isolates the driver and passengers and protects them from tools and gear stored in the cargo area. It also doubles as a bed platform when flipped on its side.
Throw in a foam or inflatable mattress and you’ve already created a voluminous cargo van that will keep you working hard all day and sleeping comfortably at night. But campers looking for more can choose from Hünerkopf’s catalog of rail-mountable modules made from high-pressure laminate (HPL). Products include a kitchen module with a sink and portable stove, a toilet module with a sliding portable toilet and toilet paper holder, a folding multi-leaf table, and a variety of refrigerator options. We also offer bike and bicycle carriers for inside the van.
For buyers whose work requires more than just an empty cargo plane, Iveco and Hünerkopf have teamed up with furniture supplier Soltimo to offer cabinets, toolboxes, worktops and more. We are also working with Bott GmbH, our supplier of van racks. Buyers can order the camper and work module they need and swap them for different trips.
Hünerkopf and Iveco offer the Daily Switch as a 4×2, but the model shown in Düsseldorf has a 4×4 system, making the Daily more accessible than typical camper base vans such as the Mercedes Sprinter AWD or Volkswagen Transporter 4Motion. It also helps make it a high-performance off-roader. Unlike the AWD systems on these vans, the Daily offers proper 4WD with three locking differentials and off-road reduction gearing. It stands on a durable ladder frame and is shod with 265/70 R19 off-road tires. Power comes from an Iveco 173 horsepower 3.0-liter engine.
Prices for the Iveco Daily Switch 4×2 start at €76,990 (approximately $83,925), while the Switch 4×4 with pop-up sleeper roof, pictured, starts at €138,111 ($150,550). Camping and work modules are priced separately.
